Apple confirms iPhone battery issue

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) — Apple confirmed Wednesday its latest iOS 5 mobile operating system was causing a battery problem identified by iPhone 4S customers and that a fix was coming.

“A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices,” Apple said in a statement released on technology news site AllThingsD. “We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.” Continue Reading

Apple says iPhone 4S sales top four million in first weekend

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) — Apple on Monday announced that it has sold more than four million of its new iPhone 4S, three days after the launch last Friday.

“IPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than four million sold in its first weekend–the most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing. Continue Reading

Apple wins battle to block Samsung tablets in Australia

SYDNEY, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) — American technology company Apple won a victory on Thursday in its global patent battle with rival Samsung when a Federal Court judge of Australia granted a temporary injunction blocking the sale of Samsung’s latest tablet computer in the country.

Justice Annabelle Bennett handed down her ruling on Thursday to ban the South Korean firm from selling its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer in Australia. Continue Reading

Apple iPhone 4S pre-orders top 1 million in 24 hours

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) — Apple announced on Monday that pre-orders of its iPhone 4S have topped 1 million in a single day, surpassing the previous single-day pre-order record of the company’s smartphone.

The iPhone 4S pre-orders surpassed 1 million in the first 24 hours and the previous single day pre-order record held by iPhone 4 is 600,000, according to Apple. Continue Reading

Samsung seeks sales ban on iPhone 4S in France, Italy

SEOUL, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) — Samsung Electronics said Wednesday that it would seek sales ban on Apple’s iPhone 4S in France and Italy as the iPhone maker infringed severely on Samsung’s wireless telecommunications technology.

“Samsung plans to file separate preliminary injunction motions in Paris, France and Milan, Italy, requesting the courts to block the sales of Apple’s iPhone 4S in the respective markets,” Samsung said in an e-mailed statement. Continue Reading

Amazon unveils tablet computer Kindle Fire

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) — Online retail giant Amazon. com on Wednesday unveiled a tablet computer called Kindle Fire, its answer to Apple’s popular iPad.

The Kindle Fire retails for 199 U.S. dollars, less than half the price of the iPad, which starts at 499 dollars.

NASA says defunct satellite falls back to Earth

WASHINGTON, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) — A decommissioned U.S. science satellite fell back to Earth but its precise re-entry time and location remained unknown, the U.S. space agency NASA said Saturday.

“The Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite fell back to Earth between 11:23 p.m. EDT Friday (0323 GMT Saturday) and 1:09 a.m. EDT (0509 GMT). The Joint Space Operations Center at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California said the satellite penetrated the atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean,” said NASA. Continue Reading
