Los Angeles court jury found Michael Jackson doctor guilty

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) — A Los Angeles Superior Court jury on Monday found pop superstar Michael Jackson’s personal physician Conrad Murray guilty in the singer’s Propofol-induced death, while the trial wrapped up on Monday afternoon.

Murray, who was little bit shocked by the decision, was handcuffed after the verdict was read and was immediately remanded to custody in county jail.

Murray has been ordered jailed without bail pending his sentencing on Nov. 29. Continue Reading

Michael Jackson doctor’s fate now rests in the hands of jurors

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) — After a lengthy round of closing arguments delivered Thursday by both sides over the involuntary manslaughter trial against Michael Jackon’s personal physician, the fate of the cardiologist now rests in the hands of the panelists.

Deputy District Attorney David Walgren and defense attorney Edward Chernoff traded jabs during the day’s court proceedings at the Los Angeles Superior Court, with Walgren accusing the pop star’s doctor Conrad Murray of performing an “obscene experiment” on Jackson for treating his insomnia with powerful anesthetic Propofol. Lindsay Lohan ordered to be sent to jail for 30 days

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) — Troubled U.S. actress Lindsay Lohan, who has admitted to having violated her probation in grand theft and drunk-driving cases by failing to show up for court- ordered community-service appointments and therapy sessions, was ordered by a Los Angeles judge to spend 30 days in jail on Wednesday.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner, at a Wednesday hearing to determine if Lohan has violated her probation terms, found the actress liable for the violation, and gave her two choices — spend 300 days in jail, or do community service at the morgue and therapy sessions and spend 30 days in jail. Michael Jackson doctor Conrad Murray refuses to testify in own defense

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) — Michael Jackson’s personal doctor Conrad Murray, who is charged with involuntary manslaughter for the pop star’s 2009 death, refused to testify in his own defense Tuesday.

The 58-year-old cardiologist told Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael E. Pastor his decision not to testify and resign his fate to a jury instead. Edward Chernoff, the defense attorney, also told the judge that they had discussed the matter many times before. Continue Reading

“Puss In Boots” tops North America box office with softer opening

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) — DreamWorks Animation has won another victory at the North America box office, with “Puss In Boots (3-D)” rising to the top place over the Halloween weekend with softer opening showing.

The computer-animated adventure is projected to take in 34 million U.S. dollars after it debuted at 3,952 venues in the United Stated and Canada, representing a softer-than-expected performance for DreamWorks which has been known to be good at making hit animated features, according to distributor Paramount Pictures. Michael Jackson likely caused his own death: expert witness

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) — Michael Jackson had likely killed himself by injecting a fatal dose of Propofol by himself, a leading anesthesiologist testified on Friday at the trial of Conrad Murray, the singer’s personal physician who is charged with involuntary manslaughter for his role in the high-publicity case.

Paul White, who took the stand as the defense team’s final witness, disputed the findings of a key prosecution witness, Steven Shafer, who said he believed that Jackson died while being given a “drip” of Propofol. Continue Reading

Poor Indian government clerk becomes millionaire on TV gameshow

SHIJIAZHUANG, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) — Chinese acrobatic troupes need to enlarge their domestic market and innovate their performances amid expectations that the art will help China extend its cultural influence, industry insiders said at an ongoing acrobatics carnival.

After a long depression, the domestic acrobatic industry is starting to expand, according to Bian Faji, president of the China Acrobats Association. The domestic market has fared better than overseas markets, which shrunk following the global economic downturn, Bian said Thursday at the 13th China Wuqiao International Acrobatics Carnival currently being held in the northern province of Hebei. Medical expert testifies against Michael Jackson’s physician

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) — A New York medical expert on Thursday continued to testify against Michael Jackson’s personal physician who is charged of involuntary manslaughter of the pop superstar.

On the 14th day of the trial, Steven Shafer, an anesthesiology professor at Columbia University, highlighted his claim with detailed simulating of how Conrad Murray admittedly administered the Propofol to Jackson in the hours leading up to his June 25, 2009 death. Continue Reading
