Italy –Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi offered a conditional resignation on Tuesday, in that he step down but only after Parliament passes an austerity package demanded by the European Union.
Under Berlusconi’s offer, once he formally steps down, the President would then begin talks with various parliamentary leaders to decide whether to go to call for elections or try to form a new government with the existing political assembly.

Libya – Celebrations over the death of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi are being tempered over questions as to the cause of death and over where and when he should be buried.
Libya’s Transitional National Council had said initially that Gaddafi would be buried on Friday in accordance with Islamic law but that the location of the grave had not been determined, news agencies reported. Later on Mahoud Jibril the Interim Prime Minister
said the burial could take place in the next 48 hours but he did not provide any details.

TRIPOLI/SIRTE, Libya, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) — Libya’s fallen leader Muammar Gaddafi died of his wounds on Thursday, a National Transitional Council (NTC) field commander told Xinhua.
The commander, Momhemed Buras Ali Al-Maknee, told Xinhua earlier that a group of fighters from the western Libyan city of Misrata captured Gaddafi in Sirte, who was then severely injured.
